The perfect way to add USB ports and network connectivity to your Raspberry Pi Zero or Model A+. We've tested heaps of these adapters and this one is by far the best!
Note: To use with the Raspberry Pi Zero you'll also need a microB OTG USB shim!
Expand the connectivity of your Pi allowing you to connect keyboards, mice, WiFi dongles, and other USB devices while also having a super-handy Ethernet port for wired network connectivity. It is robustly constructed with good cable strain relief.
You can expect around 12MB/s throughput from the Ethernet port.
Features:
Purchased one for powering some 5v switches and a heating controller. As a large linux user the device also works in our linux servers and pcs having an extra real (not virtual) ethernet slot is helpful.
A really useful addition to any Raspberry Pi collection. Looks neat and very Apple-esque ...well, until it's plugged in and the blue LED cheapens things, not least by revealing how thin the plastic is.
Do its job, I recommend it ! I use it with my Pi Zero, wifi adaptater, logitech wireless keyboard (not bluetooth) ans a mouse, they are all powered correctly.
I tried three other, separate hubs, powered and none worked with my A+. I spent days on forums looking for solutions. This hub worked straight out of the box. Buy it !
This all works out of the box with my Pi 1 Model A+. Kernel log shows the ethernet controller is a Realtek RTL8152, so if you're building your own kernel you'll need config option USB_RTL8152 (found under Device Drivers -> Network device support -> USB Network Adapters -> Realtek RTL8152/RTL8153 Based USB Ethernet Adapters). Recommended.
Excellent review i will try to build a naked Pi-Zero inside this Hub, the measurements show its possible. just take away the external usb-cable and solder this on the Pi-Zero micro-USB the hub got connector for a powersupply, since i dont need this for my hub i will solder this to the Pi-Zero for Powersupply. now we have a Pi-Zero inside a nice Case
Excellent must have for pizero i can now run a pizero with wifi. Keyboard and mouse many thanks
As with previous review i used to match up with the Pi Zero, using the micro usb shim to fit it. Networking worked perfectly, USB without any hitch. I plugged a USB wifi dongle in to it and use it for remote access via RDP - lovely little setup. It has also been handy for laptop which has no eth0 port.
WOW what a little gem this is When I first tried this adapter, as I boot up my 'Raspberry Pi Zero' I notice the RPi was asking my router for for a DHCP address. working straight out of the box (packet) So easy to use just plug into the micro USB host port on your RPi Zero (needs adapter e.g. 'USB to microUSB OTG Converter Shim') and your ready to go. Uses very little power about 50ma with noting connected and 80ma with mouse, keyboard & network connected I maxed this out at 250ma with a keyboard and 2x Bitscope Micro's For less than ВЈ15 pounds you can have the equivalent on a Raspberry Pi model A+ with twice the ram 2 extra USB ports and network. of course if you need the camera and/or Lcd connector then add this adapter to a Model A+ If you have multiple RPi Zero's or Model A's that don't require network for their intended purpose, then you could use this just set up and configure them. I am very impressed with this adapter, thanks to Pimoroni for finding this one :)
With a micro USB shim , I'd say this is an essential accessory for the Pi Zero. It just works, truly plug'n'play. Tried it as a partial docking-station for my Lenovo laptop on the office LAN and worked fine there too. In fact I'm going to need a few more.
