Raspberry Pi TV HAT

by Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi TV HAT allows you to receive digital terrestrial TV broadcast systems which includes DVB-T and DVB-T2 on a Raspberry Pi.

With the board you can receive and view TV on a Raspberry Pi or create a TV server that allows you to stream received TV over a network to other devices. The TV HAT can be used on all Raspberry Pi boards when running as a backend (server for other devices on the network). Performance when receiving and viewing TV on a Pi can vary and it is recommended to use a Raspberry Pi 2, 3 or 3+ to do this.

The board comes with a set of mechanical spacers, a 40 way header and an Aerial adaptor.

Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) is a widely adopted standard for transmitting broadcast Television, countries that have adopted the DVB standard can be found here;

https://www.dvb.org/resources/public/images/site/dvb-t2_map.pdf

 Please note it is the responsibility of the end user to ensure that they have the necessary permissions / license to receive broadcast television in their country.

Adverts show this product with a Pi Zero W. However, this product would not run properly on either a Pi Zero or Pi 2B due to high CPU usage at 95%. Used a 4B (2Gbyte model tested). Not tested on a 3B which may be OK. Would not work on Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browsers. It only worked on Firefox. The display resolution is not great but still very watchable.

Tried this on a Raspberry Pi 1 B+ at first and it works well. Now on a Pi 2 works fine too. Used tvheadend package, slightly clunky to set up but does the job. I can now stream HD TV to any device with a screen in the house. Not bad for £20.

Works amazing amazingly with Plex, so much cheaper to build compared to a homerun.

got this to start my PiTV, put the hat on the pi and started it up. Found the hut and get live TV working, but you might need the MPEG2 license from Raspberry Pi to make it work better
