White LED Backlight Module

These bright white LED panels are the same sort used in backlights for LCD displays, usually tucked just behind the display. The LEDs are encased in acrylic to produce a beautifully even light, and there's a foil reflector behind to maximise the light bounced forward.

Use gels or even marker pens on the acrylic to change the colour of light produced. Get creative and use these panels in your wearables project; they're much less power-hungry than EL wire or panels and don't need an inverter (although they aren't flexible like EL lights).

The 38.7mm x 11.9 White LED Backlight was just the right size to fit in a model railway waiting room. It looks realistic too. I fixed the module in place with PVA glue and soldered the wire connections using a heat sink so as not to overheat the module. The packaging does not state the Voltage of the module, which is a pity as it took me a while to find the Technical Data Sheet, which can be downloaded. Otherwise, a great product.

I have used these in the past for lighting small Cribs for Christmas, perfect. This time I am building them into jewellery boxes to light when the lid is opened. They are remarkably bright and economical to run.

Does exactly what is says on the tin - I used 3 to light up my 3D printer for night prints and I couldn't be happier!

Using to make an animated sign on a model railway. It works really well for this - I removed the diffuser and stuck precut pieces of coloured acrylic to the face. It's possible to drill through the panel to add SMD LEDS as 'details'. Really quick delivery and a very good price!

I have very little electricity knowledge but read these would be good as a background to digitise slides. Given some uncertainty with the electronics as in other posts i ordered 3. Using an old 5v 1A USB charger i first tried it with 1000 OHM which was a bit dark and then removed the chain of 100 OHM resistors. One of the panels then burned out at 0 Ohm and so I have been running the second for hours with a 100 Ohm resistor. Somehow, this does not really seems to fit with the spec sheet and some more explicit support might increase sales. They are not as bright as I thought, but are perfectly fine for slides. One thing, as they come with two white covers, is, that there is no way obvious to tell which of the which way around this works which could be easily labeled.
