GFX HAT - Retro LCD with RGB Backlight

GFX HAT riffs off our beloved Display-O-Tron HAT, but gives you the flexibility of individual pixels, letting you display more complex graphics and real typefaces, while retaining the handy capacitive touch buttons for input/navigation.

This is a hard product to review, so I have broken it into stages 1) Pimoroni Support ***** Excellent service, second to none 2) Product Construction **** Nice bit of kit, good PCB and sturdily constructed . Fits a Pi 3 very well 3) Driver Installation ** You have to revert to Bullseye, the installation doesn't work on the modern OS 4) Example Code * They don't run without some incomprehensible additions provided to me by Pimoroni Support. If you Know how to drive the board you don't need them, if you don't know how to drive it the examples are virtually useless, not a meaningfull comment to be seen I have returned to using an obsolete Rainbow Hat for my project

ARRR GEEE BEEEE! I'm driving it with a microcontroller + circuitpython by adapting an Adafruit LCD library for the ST7565 (almost the same as the ST7567 in the GFX hat) and porting the Pimoroni SN3218 library to circuitpython. Works great! I don't need capacitive touch so not bothering with that.

It does what it says which fits what I need. My only issue was that I mistakenly thought that the LCD had six touch zones rather than the six touch areas being on the board. My other issue was clearly not Pimoroni's fault. It took too months for the package to get from the UK to Guatemala.

Prompt delivery. Worked out of the box with their examples. Great price at discounted price of £9. Perhaps some more detailed documentation would be useful.

An incredibly priced device, great screen, the buttons work very well and the LEDs for each buttons are very appreciated. The RGB backlight with individually control zones is a great touch. I am currently using it with a pi to received and display SMS messages.

Lovely upgrade to my display-o-tron, and inky phat... and though it’s not as higher resolution as the inky Phat, the ability to refresh the data quicker makes it much more useful

Just bought my second one of these, great for small embedded projects. Pimoroni is becoming a favourite here too, I've bought quite a few things now and the goodies have always arrived quickly.

I love the GFX Hat. It's just very functional and works very well. I'm using it to monitor my Raspberry PIs servers for temperature and uptime. My only complain is the documentation... Pimoroni should (and must) complete (there's none) the documentation in the learning section for the GFX hat

Just completed the display for a heating monitoring system on the GFXHAT. It is an excellent compact plug and play solution for simple IOT displays. Able to set individual pixels for a display bar. Touch buttons work through up to 3mm plastic case if required. Screen colour infinitely variable in 6 zones! Difficult to find the essential command set documentation on the website though. You need to look here http://docs.pimoroni.com/gfxhat/ The fonts are obviously rather limited and need trial and error for best legibility- they are here https://github.com/pimoroni/gfx-hat/tree/master/library/gfxhat/fonts An all round great display hat.
