Timer Camera X (OV3660, ESP32, PSRAM)

by M5Stack

An all in one camera with ultra low power consumption and an inbuilt real time clock (as well as a battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth). Perfect for security or just for making cool timelapses!

Based on the incredibly good value ESP32 chip and armed with 8MB of PSRAM and an OV3660 camera, you could set it up as a security camera, attach it to a remote control vehicle or even use it to spy on your pets remotely.

The camera (OV3660) with 3 million pixels has a 66.5° field of view and a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200. There's also a built-in 140mAh battery and LED status indicator, and a reset button under the LED.

The Real Time Clock (BM8563) lets you program the camera to wake up, take a photo and go to sleep again, with a standby current of only 2μA. This low power consumption means that after the timing photo function is turned on and set to take one photo an hour, the battery should be able to keep the camera going for more than a month!

The module supports Wi-Fi image transmission and USB port debugging. The bottom HY2.0-4P port output can be connected to other peripherals. Through the M5Burner burning firmware, Timer Camera X can programmed directly with Camera-Tool, and Timer Camera X data can be processed in UIFlow.

Works really well. Have to say that I might get some 1mm as the 0.5mm is quite thin for my needs (mainly wiring between a uC PCB and I2C devices with single core wire). I guess the 0.5mm would be more appropriate for soldering surface mount items.

This solder is good if your joint location is not a large copper plane, in that case make sure to heat the surface adequately before applying the solder and you'll be fine.

I tried the 0.5mm but prefer this 1mm. What I do need is a new iron more suitable for lead free solder.... Another good product from Pimoroni.

Takes a bit of getting used to if you're used to lead solder. Dispatched in good time and worked well to solder a GPIO header on to a Raspberry Pi Zero.

I hope other people will become aware of fair supply chains that can be developed within the ICT and electronics industries. Use of this product will be a small step towards a fairer supply chain.
