Camera Module for Raspberry Pi Zero

This minimal camera for the Pi Zero (or Pi Zero W) is perfect for small camera projects where space is at a premium.

The sensor is 5MP, and the whole shebang is mounted on a flexible circuit board. As such, a little care is needed when handling, just like the connector on the Pi Zero. Easy there, Lennie!

Otherwise it's an economical and svelte solution for bird box cameras, body-cams, home security, and simple computer vision projects.

UPDATE: now also available without an IR filter, which is useful for night vision, especially when using IR lights to illuminate the subject.

UPDATE: now available with a 120° wide-angle lens! (see dimensional drawing and datasheet)

UPDATE: now also available with a 160° wide-angle, variable-focus lens! You can adjust the focus on this lens to focus reaaaaaally close!!

Features

  • 5MP sensor, 2592x1944 pixels (same as version 1 official Pi camera)
  • 1080p video at 30 FPS (or 60 FPS at 720p, 90 FPS at 480p)
  • f2.9 lens, 3.60 mm focal length
  • 53.50 degrees horizontal, 41.41 degrees vertical field of view (standard and no IR filter versions)
  • Approx. dimensions of circuit and camera: 60 x 11.4 x 5.1mm

Tried setting this camera using different boards with various os and it's not recognised by any system. Doesn't show up in raspberry pi zero w

Ideal product. Noir filter got me at first, but was easily resolved in software to remove the pink image and get a normal image. Will be ordering more soon for additional security cameras.

I got this to monitor my 3D printer and it works very well with a piZero 2W - the focussing is a bit fiddly and could benefit from a larger knurled lens mount. 160 degrees turns out to be ludicrously wide angled - meaning the camera needs to be very close to the print bed - stood 2 inches from the build plate it still only fills half the frame - good camera and lens but possibly not ideal for a 3D printing monitor

My first picam. Very good photo quality. Even without IR filter, photos taken under daylight still look much more "normal" than what I saw on youtube.

Tiny camera which connected immediately for stills and video to a Pi 4 using libcamera, and a Pi 3 using raspivid. Very good picture quality for its size. Needs the Pimoroni adapter to convert the built-in cable to the larger standard cable for full size Pi; haven't tried it with Pi Zero yet.

Very small and good. However, it wasn't available out of the box on the latest pi-os. I would appreciate it if you could describe how to deal with it on the product page.

Works as described and expected! Probably should have gone with the non-IR filtered lens, as this variable focus mount/lens is not compatible with much out there.

Very good but not for everything. I prefer to use for close up images eg inside a bird box, or filming close up work. Gets loads in the frame. I struggled to get it to focus on distances eg as a camera filming a room. For that I'd suggest the zero cam 120 degree fixed focus.

Excellent service!!! Previously bought the ZeroCam Noir and came back to get this one to set up a security cam in motioneye os for the oil tank. Thoroughly recommend.

for the money this is pretty great in daylight. however i find its not much good at night on my motioneyeos pi zero w. I proably should have got the no IR version.

I'm building a couple of projects - one for a time-lapse view from the top of the hill overlooking my home town (and the sea) and the other for an under-water camera at in the inter-tidal zone. Both need the wide angle view, so hopefully this will do the trick.

Great little camera. Robust. We used it to make a wildlife camera. The kids did all the programming and putting it together, so it was manhandled quite a bit! It also survived falling out of tree inside its makeshift container! Picture quality is basic but fine for what we wanted to achieve.

I fitted this camera on a device that is used to make an inventory of bird nests for an important birding club. The performance is very adequate because, due to its size, the camera can access very small spaces. This camera is called minicorNIDfleur. It is a member of the NIDcornifleur family.
