This chip has nearly everything integrated, including dual 3A MOSFET switches. Note that the switch doesn't tell you the max output, see the tables below for that!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAdafruit set the feedback resistors to give a 5.2V output, this is a little higher than 5V which helps account for voltage drop over cables. They took some measurements of the input\/output current and max draw using a bench-top power supply and electronic load:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAt \u003cstrong\u003e2V\u003c\/strong\u003e DC in, max current out at 5V is \u003cstrong\u003e300mA \u003c\/strong\u003e(the minimum input voltage that will 'boot' the booster)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAt \u003cstrong\u003e2.5V\u003c\/strong\u003e DC in, max current out at 5V is \u003cstrong\u003e500mA \u003c\/strong\u003e(two NiMH rechargables)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAt \u003cstrong\u003e3V\u003c\/strong\u003e DC in, max current out at 5V is \u003cstrong\u003e800mA\u003c\/strong\u003e (two alkalines or a near-dead LiPo)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAt \u003cstrong\u003e3.5V\u003c\/strong\u003e DC in, max current out at 5V is \u003cstrong\u003e1100 mA \u003c\/strong\u003e(this is a LiPoly nominal voltage)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAt \u003cstrong\u003e4V\u003c\/strong\u003e DC in, max current out at 5V is \u003cstrong\u003e1400 mA \u003c\/strong\u003e(3 NiMH, or a fresh LiPoly)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMost people will want to use a Lipoly or LiIon battery with a booster, with a nominal voltage of 3.7V. Here's the efficiencies at that voltage:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e5.2V 100mA out requires 160mA in at 3.7V (88%)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e5.2V 250mA out requires 400mA in at 3.7V (88%)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e5.2V 500mA out requires 800mA in at 3.7V (88%)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e5.2V 1000mA out requires 1800mA in at 3.7V (78%)\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs you can see, you'll be humming at ~88% as 'lower' currents of about 500mA and less. You can get 1A out but your efficiency will drop a bit to ~78%\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou get one fully assembled breakout with a TPS61023 and components, and a small bit of header. Give it 3-5V on the IN and ground pins. Then you'll have 5V on the OUT pin.
